World Aids Day

By | News | No Comments

World AIDS Day is held on 1 December each year. It raises awareness across the world and in the community about the issues surrounding HIV and AIDS. It is a day for people to show their support for people living with HIV and to commemorate people who have died.

HIV has devastated populations in Africa over the last few decades. Kenya has an average HIV prevalence rate of 6% and with about 1.6 million people living with HIV infection, it is one of the six HIV ‘high burden’ countries in Africa. The western part of the country through Homabay, Siaya and Kisumu are the most affected with HIV with rates of 25.7%, 23.7% and 19.3% respectively.

Working with local communities Kenya Aid and its partners are committed to reducing the impact of HIV/AIDS in Western Kenya. As one of the areas hardest hit by HIV, Kenya Aid’s in-country program is focused on reducing the stigma of those living with HIV, encouraging safe sex practices and helping individuals in the community to be aware of their status, alongside providing support and access to treatment programs.

To continue providing essential support and to help reduce the spread of HIV in Kenya, we would love your support this December 1! Share our page, donate, and help those living with HIV know they are not alone.

International Day of the Girl Child

By | News | No Comments

October 11 is International Day of the Girl Child. The observation supports more opportunity for girls and increases awareness of gender inequality faced by girls worldwide based upon their gender. This inequality includes areas such as right to education/access to education, nutrition, legal rights, medical care, and protection from discrimination, violence against women and unfree child marriage.

At Kenya Aid we’re all for girl power, and we know that education is the key to that. Our community education programs include prenatal and postnatal care, as well as reproductive education. Alongside these programs we run fully inclusive and supportive education opportunities for girls at our non-formal school in Shikumu.

You can find out more about how Kenya Aid is making a difference to the lives of girls in Shikunga by visiting our programs page. Or if you would like to make a difference this International Day of the Girl Child, please go to our donation page.

10th Anniversary Dinner 2016

By | Events | No Comments
KA_dinner_productIn 2016 Kenya Aid will be celebrating it’s 10th anniversary.

Thanks to our generous donors and supporters, over the last 10 years we have built, equipped and staffed a hospital, purchased an ambulance, provided
essential health and education services to thousands and almost completed the construction of a school.

Along with celebrating our 10 years of achievements, we are working towards raising sufficient funds to complete our school project that will ensure that the children of Western Kenya receive the opportunities they need to change not only their lives but the lives of their families and the community at large.

Come help us celebrate and raise the funds we need to complete the construction of our school.

School results for 2015

By | News | No Comments

The official school ranking results for Kenya schools in 2015 are in and we are incredibly proud to announce that our students and teachers continue to place amongst the best in the district.

Our primary school comes in at position 22 out of 72 schools in the district, and our secondary was positioned at 8 out of 27 schools at district level. We also saw 20 of our secondary students graduate and 30 of our primary students graduate last year. Well done to each and every one of them!

Just think what these kids could do with permanent classrooms!

If you’ve got a few dollars to spare why not give these kids a helping hand. We’ve almost raised enough for another new classroom, or you could become a regular donor and help give our teachers the pay they deserve.

Last week Kanye was in the news for his wild Twitter rant in which he suggested friends and fans donate money towards his personal $53 million debt, rather than donate to build schools in Africa. The world didn’t find it tasteful, and one Kanye fan decided to act. Read More
