Child health

Children are particularly vulnerable to ill health in developing countries and therefore shoulder much of the burden of disease. To help, Kenya Aid has adopted an approach that encourages child attendance to its hospital and focuses on their specific health needs.

In Kenya the level of child mortality is staggeringly high with almost 90 children out of 1,000 not reaching their 5th birthday. Most deaths from illness in childhood are from preventable causes such as diarrhoeal disease, pneumonia and malaria. These can all be treated with simple measures if management is started early.

Kenya Aid provides:

  • Free medical treatment to all children under 5 that were born at the Shikunga hospital
  • Free mosquito nets to all children under 5
  • Free immunisation
