ABOUT KENYA AID
Kenya Aid is an Australian charity managed by a board of passionate individuals dedicated to improving the lives of people in Western Kenya. We aim to do this through improving the availability and quality of health care and education in the region.
Prior to our presence in Shikunga there was limited access to health care. There was no health centre or hospital of any kind – so we built one. As of 2016 our health programs have been running for almost 10 years and include a hospital, vaccine program, maternity services, ambulance and more.
Educational opportunities were also limited to children of families who could afford it – so we started to build a school. Today our school is attended by approximately 200 students from the area. Each child is given lunch every day and our graduates marks speak for themselves – despite the lack of permanent classrooms our school is one of the top performing schools in the district.
Kenya Aid works in partnership with indigenous Kenyan NGO’s and the Kenyan Government to ensure to programs we provide are responsive to the communities that we serve. Our programs are community orientated and we place a heavy emphasis on education and preventative strategies. Through these programs we aim to provide hope and empowerment to the people of Western Kenya.
