Children are particularly vulnerable to disease in developing countries and therefore shoulder much of the burden of disease. Because of this an approach that encourages children’s attendance to health services and focuses on their specific health needs will improve health outcomes.
Most deaths from illness in childhood are from preventable causes such as diarrhoeal disease, pneumonia and malaria. These can all be treated with simple measures if management is started early. In Kenya the level of child mortality is staggeringly high with almost 90 children out of 1000 not reaching their 5th birthday.
We are addressing children’s health in a number of ways with a focus on preventative measures.
